Twitter users voted in a poll in favor of removing Elon Musk as chief executive of the social media platform, in a backlash against the billionaire less than two months after he took office.
According to a poll released by the billionaire on Sunday night. More than 17.5 million people participated in the vote. About 57.5% of the votes were in favor of “yes”, while 42.5% were against the idea that Musk resign from his post at the helm of Twitter.
Musk that he would abide by the poll results, but did not elaborate on when he would step down if the results said he had to.
Shares of Tesla Inc, the electric car maker Musk runs, rose about 5% in premarket trading. Also earlier this month, Musk, who lost his title as the world’s richest person, also founded the Boring Company, an excavation company, backs the Neuralink medical device company and runs the SpaceX rocket company.
Following the Twitter deal, Tesla investors worry that Musk is getting too busy.
Tesla shares have already lost nearly 60% of their value this year as it battles like other automakers with supply chain woes and growing competition in the electric vehicle space.
